"A Bloody Inconvenience"
"Menstruation. A vital part in the coming of age for most adolescent women. To get science-y about it, it can be described as 'the process in a woman of discharging blood and other material from the lining of the uterus at intervals of about one month from puberty until the menopause, except during pregnancy ". To those that experience it, however, it can be anything but textbook."
'A Bloody Inconvenience' draws on the overproduced, vastly unrealistic and, at times, offensively comedic representation of menstruation in the media. Comprised of a short film, research workbook and supporting essay, the project set out to challenge archaic menstrual taboos, bring closure to its creator and remind viewers that - despite what the adverts tell you - periods aren't always a walk in the park ... or horseback ride.
